I had fallen deeply in love with a local man, the son of a white farmer. It was wonderful to be in love again! We had time for everything. The frantic world had bypassed the little island of Nihau.

Just before leaving Montreal I went to buy poppy seeds for growing purposes, I had seen a garden with lots of poppies in a magazine cover, how beautiful they looked! I wanted my own garden with all kinds of these beautiful flowers. Women like gardens and I am a woman. So I made some research about the poppy flower and I learned that the only illegal flower in the poppy family was the flower known as papaver somniferum because of his very high alkaloid content; the rest of the flowers were legal to grow. Besides, if I had some health problems such as: arthritis, diarrhea, colic, insomnia, neuralgia, and some other diseases: some kinds of cancer to name just one of the most important, that is why I wanted to buy poppy seeds for growing purposes before leaving Canada, I wanted a beautiful pharmacy at my own garden! This way I could kill two birds with one stone; I was smart, was I not?
